EuroCOP expresses its strong support for our colleagues in the Garda Representative Association following the announcement of work-to-rule action during forthcoming EU Presidency events.

This decision follows an overwhelming mandate from GRA members, with 94.2% of respondents to the relevant survey question supporting industrial action and 93.6% of respondents to a second question supporting work-to-rule action during EU Presidency events.

These results reflect the significant concerns raised by Gardaí regarding working hours, rest periods, travel arrangements and what the GRA describes as the continued erosion of agreed terms and conditions.

Across Europe, police officers are regularly asked to work under exceptional pressures, often making considerable personal sacrifices to protect the communities they serve.

Their commitment to public safety must be matched by an equally strong commitment to their own health, safety, wellbeing and employment rights.
Agreed working conditions and appropriate rest periods are not simply employment benefits. They are fundamental to officer welfare, operational effectiveness and sustainable policing.

EuroCOP recognises the clear message delivered by GRA members and supports their right to have their concerns heard, their working conditions respected and their wellbeing protected.

We stand firmly alongside GRA General Secretary Ronan Slevin, the GRA Executive and their membership as they seek meaningful action to address these concerns.

Police officers who dedicate their working lives to protecting others deserve protection, fairness and respect in return.
