European trade unions are urging the European Commission to introduce binding EU legislation to prevent psychosocial risks at work as part of the forthcoming Quality Jobs Act.
🔹 The scale of the problem is alarming:
- Workplace stress causes more than 10,000 deaths a year in the EU and UK.
- Over 840,000 people die annually from health conditions linked to psychosocial risks, according to the ILO.
- Workplace stress accounts for over 40% of all cases of depression.
- Fewer than 40% of EU workplaces have action plans to prevent psychosocial risks.
🔹 Prevention benefits everyone: Better workplace mental health can reduce staff turnover, improve productivity and lower costs.
✊ The message is clear: Voluntary action is not enough. Workers need strong, enforceable protections to ensure safe, healthy and decent working conditions across Europe.
The Quality Jobs Act must deliver meaningful action to prevent psychosocial risks and protect workers’ health and well-being.
